The FDNY's Electronic Fireground Accountability System (EFAS) Program Management and R&D staff have been honored with the Department's Administration Medal, which "was created in 1914 to ecourage uniformed and civilian members to study Depoartment problems and develop viable solutions." SDI's Mayday/Rollcall Application (MRA) is an integral part of EFAS.

Tracking Firefighters with Chips:

The New York City Fire Deptarment has been working with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, to develop transmitting chips for firefighters' gear that will allow electronic tracking of firefighters on the scene of an emergency call. The chip would have to withstand the heat, smoke, and water found while fighting a fire. It would be activated when a firefighter boards a truck to respond to a call.
